But when the game was on the line, he was on the floor, and he already proved he belonged.
Cenac was the No. 27 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft after one season at Houston, and joining an established team means he may not play a ton early.
At least on Friday night, though, Cenac looked like he might have a chance.

Chris Cenac’s game-tying 3-pointer
Cenac displayed his clutch gene late.
He drilled a catch-and-shoot 3 while trailing by three with a second left in regulation.
The shot forced overtime, and the Celtics went on to win.

Chris Cenac shot blocking
Cenac is lanky and can space the floor, but to reach his ceiling, he’ll have to help protect the rim defensively.
That was easy on Friday: He blocked four shots.
If that keeps up, Cenac’s chances at minutes will go way up.
Chris Cenac stats
Overall, Cenac put up a well-rounded night, another encouraging sign.
He went for 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also made 2-of-4 3s (5-of-13 FG) and his only foul shot.
He was clutch, he was imposing at the rim and he filled the stat sheet. Not a bad debut.
