Diamondbacks vs Giants live updates. Good news on front-line starter
Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Michael Soroka has been on the 15-day injured list with a strained left glute for 10 days, as of Tuesday, June 30. It appears he’s moving toward a return that could happen before the All-Star break.
Soroka threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, and results are expected Wednesday. Manager Torey Lovullo said the club feels it could be a fast turnaround for Soroka to be able to rejoin the starting rotation.

“As long as he keeps progressing the way that he has been, and the glute situation has been minimized,” Lovullo said. “That’s a very, very encouraging sign.”
Soroka’s next bullpen session could be Friday or Saturday. He has had a good 2026 season for the Diamondbacks, with an 8-3 record and a 3.07 earned run average while leading the team in strikeouts with 79.

Catcher James McCann took some live at-bats in a game situation on Tuesday, and could report to a Diamondbacks minor league affiliate soon to play games, Lovullo said. That location could be Triple-A Reno, where McCann is set to play at the end of this week.

Diamondbacks RHP Brandon Pfaadt (0-1, 5.92) vs. Giants RHP Landen Roupp (5-7, 4.07).
At Chase Field: Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo was asked every day last weekend in Tampa Bay about his pitching plan for the Giants series, but he never made it official that Pfaadt would be called back up from Triple-A to get the start. Still, that looks like it will be the case as the Diamondbacks find fill-ins for injured starters Ryne Nelson and Michael Soroka. … Pfaadt opened the season in the majors as a starter and after three games was moved to the bullpen, where he remained until June 3. The next day he was optioned to Reno, where Pfaadt has been stretched out to prepare him for a starter role again and has made three starts. … Roupp was 5-1 at the end of April but it appears teams have made adjustments, as he has not won since. One of those losses was against the Diamondbacks on May 25.
