Diver uncovers enormous shark tooth

Lifestyle

VENICE, Fla. — A diver struck “black gold” when he found a massive shark tooth while diving in Venice on December 11.

Michael Nastasio, a captain and diver for Black Gold Fossil Charters, had a hard time keeping his cool after discovering a huge megalodon shark tooth. It measures up as 5 7/8 inches long.

Nastasio said he had to cut his dive short because he couldn’t catch his breath after discovering the tooth.

“When I saw the tooth exposed like it was it literally took my breath away,” Nastasio said. “I was so excited.”

Nastasio has been diving for nine years and has found lots of other cool fossils like mammoth teeth still in the jaw bone, sections of tusk, many other species of shark teeth, camel teeth, bison teeth, horse teeth, sloth teeth, and more.

The largest verifiable Megalodon tooth ever is 7.48” long and was found near Ocucaje, Peru.
