Jorgensen concerns but Palmer and James set for Sunday

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior gave an update on the status of Cole Palmer, Reece James and Filip Jorgensen after the 1-0 win over Pafos in the Champions League.

Palmer didn’t make the matchday squad on Wednesday as Moises Caicedo scored the only goal of the match in the 77th.

When asked why the England international was not involved, Rosenior said: “Precautionary. He felt something really, really minor in the game against Brentford. Actually, quite early in the game. So, credit to him to keep going through it. But I don’t want to risk any players at this stage, especially players of Cole’s quality. He’s got a really good chance to be involved and start the game on Sunday. And we’ll keep preparing him for that.”

Both captain James and goalkeeper Jorgensen came off at half-time, with Rosenior adding there is mixed news on the status of each player.

On James, the head coach said they were limiting his minutes to make sure he can play Wednesday and Saturday each week when needed.

Speaking about Jorgensen, Rosenior said: “Unfortunately he picked something up. Devastating for him because he’s really impressed me in his time. Not just the game at Charlton, but how he’s trained. Rob Sanchez came on, made a fantastic punch with one of the few balls they put into our box. And hopefully Filip can get better really, really quick.”

Chelsea next face a trip to Crystal Palace before travelling to Italy to face Napoli in the final league phase match of the Champions League.
