Northern Accountants, a UK-based firm, has appointed Robert Wilson to the role of associate tax director.

Wilson, who graduated with a business degree, began his professional journey at Deloitte in 2007 and holds nearly two decades of experience in providing tax planning advice to businesses and their stakeholders.

His career has encompassed a range of roles in both boutique firms and larger industry practices.

Northern Accountants managing director and founder Phil Ellerby said: “It’s taken us years to find someone of Rob’s calibre, but it’s his straight-talking, problem-solving focus that makes him the perfect fit for both us, and our clients.

“His priority is to help businesses and their directors navigate the changing demands of the tax environment, clearly, and with their objectives always in mind. And given the challenges of the economic climate, I think his ability to help compliantly maximise directors’ personal and commercial wealth, has never been so important.”

Wilson’s areas of focus include the establishment of tax-efficient corporate structures, succession planning, inheritance tax strategies, taxation related to property income, and land remediation relief.

Wilson said: “I’ve enjoyed a really varied career so far, representing a broad spectrum of clients ranging from ambitious entrepreneurs to large corporate groups, as well as individuals who simply want to explore their tax position.

“But it’s this role that excites me the most – becoming involved in an established but progressive business that never stands still when it comes to client service levels.”

This appointment is part of Northern Accountants’ ongoing efforts to enhance its tax service offerings, which were initiated two years ago.

Since its inception in 2008, the firm has expanded significantly, reporting a turnover of £3.3m ($4.4m), with aspirations to reach £7.8m by 2030.

The firm is also recognised as a top 300 practice and has invested in new personnel to facilitate its growth plans.

Recent hires at Northern Accountants include payroll manager Aga Copeland, client manager Rob Fraser, bookkeeper Alice Henderson, and HR lead Paula Ingham, alongside the formation of a new advisory board.

With offices in Leeds, Hull, and Edinburgh, the firm provides a variety of tax services, including corporation tax planning, personal tax, capital gains, remuneration strategies, wealth and inheritance planning, and industry-specific reliefs.

In June 2025, Northern Accountants created a new advisory board to support its growth trajectory.
