Strong, slow-moving storms possible Friday as South Florida faces ‘abnormally dry’ conditions

DEVELOPING TODAY WITH THUNDERSTORMS POPPING UP. RAIN CHANCES ARE A LITTLE HIGHER AS WE HEAD INTO THE REST OF THE DAY. THE THING IS, WE’RE TALKING ABOUT SLOW-MOVING RAINFALL. SLOW MOVING SHOWERS, STORMS AND THAT EQUALS HEAVY RAIN AND THE POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING IN A BUSY START TO THE MONTH OF SET TIMBER IN THE TROPICS. TO THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER AND THE TROPICS. TAKE A LOOK AT THE UPPER LEVEL WIND, THEY ARE WAY ABOVE THE SURFACE THAT HELP STEER SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS AND YOU WILL SEE THEY ARE COMING IN IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TODAY WILL DRIFT THIS AND THAT WAY AND IT WILL BE SLOW-MOVING. MOST SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL HAVE A SOUTHERLY TO NORTHERLY PUSH. HERE IS THE RAINFALL RIGHT NOW, WELLINGTON TO PARTS OF DELRAY. WE’VE GOT LIMITED RAINFALL IN OKEECHOBEE COUNTY. RAIN CHANCES TODAY ARE UP FROM 40% YESTERDAY TO 50% TODAY. INTO THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING, SCATTERED SHOWERS AND A FEW STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE AND SIMILAR TOMORROW BUT WE ME SEE SOME MORNING RAIN TOMORROW. LOOK AT THE RAINFALL LINING UP SUNDAY MORNING. WE’VE GOT COOLER AIR IN PORT SAINT LUCIE BECAUSE OF THE RAIN COOLED AIR. TEMPERATURES ARE HOVERING IN THE 90’S AND THE HEAT INDEX IS IN THE LOW 100S. LOW PRESSURE IN THE CARIBBEAN IS WORKING HIS WAY TO THE WEST-NORTHWEST. ANOTHER TROPICAL WAVE BY THE AFTERNOON MOVING WEST COULD DEVELOP. 20-30% FOR BOTH OF THESE BUT THINGS GET PRETTY BUSY THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER IN THE TROPICS. SEVERAL STORMS DEVELOP AT THE SAME TIME SO WE WILL KEEP OUR EYES ON THAT. WE ARE LOOKING AT 50% CHANCE OF RAIN THROUGH THE WEEKEND INTO THE BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK WITH A SLIGHT
