A man walked into an Ames emergency room and attacked a nurse Monday night. The incident happened at about 9:45 p.m. at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Hospital officials say a person just walked in and started swinging their arms at a nurse.Surveillance video shows the person approaching the emergency room. When they get in, they start attacking the employee. The nurse immediately runs toward a locked room. But just before she does, her outstretched hand flicks the emergency switch. The switch triggers those blue flashing lights. Hospital officials told KCCI that attacks on medical professionals have increased nationally but are rare at Mary Greeley. They added that their employee did exactly what they had been trained to do in a dangerous situation.”There’s a panic button, there’s a lockdown button, but they also got themselves into a locked area and away from this person,” said Steve Sullivan, director of marketing and community relations. The employee wasn’t seriously injured during the attack, but is experiencing soreness in the chest. Police are still looking for the suspect. A jacket that the suspect was wearing in the video was found in an alleyway.
