Procession for Massachusetts State Trooper

Lifestyle

BOSTON (CBS) — The body of Massachusetts State Trooper Tamar Bucci was brought in a procession to a funeral home in Stoneham Saturday afternoon. Bucci died after a crash on I-93 North in Stoneham late Thursday night.

The procession went from the medical examiner’s office in Boston before going on Route 93 northbound and ending at Barile Funeral home on Main Street in Stoneham.

The streets of Saturday’s route were lined with hundreds of fellow police officers and members of the community. Some people arrived an hour early.

Attendees told WBZ-TV they were felt compelled to come out because it was the right thing to do.

“It’s very moving and very touching,” one woman said.

“That woman was just so innocent and just got taken away for no reason,” another said. “It’s so hard for her family, I feel bad for her family.”

“To have somebody struck down, just starting a new career, very young, a very vibrant person, somebody that was so full of life to be taken so soon, it really hurts,” said State Police Colonel Christopher Mason along the route. “She was a person that really wanted the job for the right reasons. She wanted to be a change agent and she really wanted to help propel this agency into the future so it’s again, a very big loss for us.”

Bucci’s family gathered outside the funeral home as her body was brought in.

Jen from Stoneham brought her son Marty to the procession. “As a State Police family it’s also really important for us to be there for other families like this,” she explained.

Marty wore his father’s state police hat. “When someone dies, especially as police, it’s very important you honor them,” he said.
