Birmingham police officers dive into floodwaters to rescue unconscious woman from car
Two Birmingham police officers are being recognized for their truly heroic actions during the deadly flooding in central Alabama Wednesday night.According to a post by Birmingham PD, Officers Evans and Burnett pulled up at 15th Avenue North and 28th Street in Norwood Wednesday night to find a car completely submerged in floodwaters. Without hesitation, the officers dove into the water to see if anyone was inside of the car.Shortly after, Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to a water rescue call at the exact location and saw the two officers swimming away from the car with a woman who was around 80 years old. Once the officers got her onto dry land, BFRS crews realized she had no pulse and was not breathing. Fire crews immediately rendered CPR and after about two rounds, the woman began coughing up water. Her pulse was restored not too long after.First responders said by the time the woman was on her way to UAB Hospital, she was conscious and communicating with medics.
