A man is facing a murder charge after a woman was shot multiple times in a Clarksville home.

“She’s a nice lady, never really hear much out of her, you don’t even know she’s there,” said Shawn Waddle, a neighbor. “It’s really sad, to hear and know that it’s somebody that lives down the street from you.”

The shooting happened around 4 a.m. on Wednesday at a home on the corner of Harrison Avenue and Roy Cole Drive.

Investigators say a woman was found shot multiple times. Her name has not been released.

A probable cause affidavit says Thomas A. Smith was charged with murdering the woman. According to the documents, a witness told police she was walking out the door of the home when Smith brushed past her to go inside.

Shortly after, she heard Smith and the victim arguing. The victim said something like, “I don’t care, just take everything” before the witness heard two loud bangs.

She said Smith ran out of the residence and took off in a truck. He was captured soon after by the sheriff’s office in Warren County, Kentucky.

“It just sucks when that sort of stuff happens,” said Taylor Wilson, a neighbor directly across the street. “People that are living in your neighborhood that you see almost every day just going in and out. All of a sudden, you look up and she’s dead.”

Officers arrived at the home and the victim was still alive for a short time before dying at the scene. They said it appears she was shot two to three times and had bruising on her face, chest and more.

The affidavit did not mention the relationship between the victim, suspect and witness.

Smith has been charged with one count of murder.
