Police: Ankeny woman charged after surrendering deceased dog, neglected dog

The Des Moines Police Department has made an arrest in the case of a deceased dog and a dog that was severely neglected. Amber Robison, of Ankeny, was arrested this weekend after police said she brought a deceased black Labrador-type dog and an emaciated German Shepard to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Police said the black Labrador-type dog was emaciated and covered in its own waste. A police report stated “the veterinarian tech stated the dog would have to be left for three to four weeks to get to its current state.” The dog had been brought in with its crate that had feces and urine. Veterinarians said the dog died of starvation. Authorities said the German Shepard was eight months old and had severe dehydration while its spine and ribs were prominent. The dog was taken in for immediate care. Robison was charged with two counts of animal neglect and has since been released from the Polk County Jail.
