The Pella School District superintendent confirmed with KCCI that a van driver did not drop off the child at preschool on Monday. Instead, the van was parked in the bus lot. When the child was found, she was still secure in her seat and unharmed. The driver is no longer driving for the district. The Pella Police Department is investigating the incident. The Pella School District has changed its attendance procedures for the preschool students and the procedures for van drivers. The superintendent also said they are in the process of equipping each preschool van with a system that will warn drivers of students left in a child seat.
