City councilor’s brother who posed as ride-hailing driver accused of raping 9th woman
The brother of a Boston City Councilor, who is already accused of raping eight women, is now facing charges related to a ninth victim. Alvin Campbell, 39, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, was arraigned Wednesday on new indictments charging three counts of rape and two counts of filming an unsuspecting nude person related to the ninth victim. Campbell is the brother of Boston City Councilor Andrea Campbell. Campbell was previously charged with sexually assaulting eight women between 2017 and 2019. In most of those offenses, he is accused of posing as a ride-hailing driver in order to target women outside Boston bars.Officials said Campbell videotaped and sexually assaulted the victims while they were unconscious or incapacitated, and allegedly recorded his own rapes of five of the prior victims. Campbell has been in custody since his January 2020 arrest for one of the offenses. As part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged serial attacks, police obtained a warrant allowing them to search a cloud-based account associated with Campbell’s cell phone. Investigators said they uncovered more video evidence, including footage that the state alleges shows him repeatedly raping an unconscious victim in June 2018. A dangerousness hearing is scheduled for April 27.
