Health department shuts daycare down for 10 days after daycare reports over 60 COVID-19 cases

THE DOUGLAS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYS THERE ARE CONFIRMED CASES AT ROSEWOOD ACADEMY CHILDCARE AND PRESCHOOL. BUT SAYS THE DAYCARE REPORTED MORE THAN 60. >> I ANSWERED THE PHONE ONE TIME AND FOUND OUT THAT A BABY HAD IT. EMILY: THAT WOMAN ASKED TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS. SHE SAID SHE WORKED AT THE DAYCARE NEAR 158TH AND FORT, WHEN SHE TESTED POSITIVE A FEW WEEKS AGO. >> I THINK IT’S PRETTY RIDICULOUS AND I DON’T THINK THEY TOOK THE RIGHT MEASURES TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE AND THAT JUST MAKES ME FEEL LIKE THEY NEVER CARED ABOUT OUR SAFETY OR OUR HEALTH. EMILY: JUSTIN FREDERICK WITH DOUGLAS COUNTY HEALTH SAYS THE CASE INVOLVE STAFF AND CHILDREN, INCLUDING INFANTS. >> WE ARE WORKING WITH THE CENTER RIGHT NOW TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN THEY DO REOPEN, THAT THEY HAVE MITIGATION MEASURES IN PLACE. EMILY: THE HEALTH DEPARTME CLOSED DOWN THE DAYCARE FOR 10 DAYS TO STOP THE VIRUS FROM SPREADING. THE EMPLOYEE SAYS SHE WON’T BE RETURNING. SHE SAYS THE OUTBREAK INFLUENCED HER TO WORK ELSEWHERE. >> I DON’T WANT TO BE AT A PLAC WHERE I FEEL LIKE MY SAFETY ISN’T CARED ABOUT, AND THE CHILDREN’S EITHER. EMILY: THE OWNERS TOLD ME THEY DECLINE TO COMMENT. THE DOUGLAS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYS IT’S NOT AWARE OF ANY HOSPITALIZATIONS RELATED TO THIS OUTBREAK. THEY’RE ALSO INVESTIGATING WHETHER ANY OF THE COVID-19 VARIANTS ARE INVOLVED HERE.

The Douglas County Health Department has shut down a daycare after the daycare reported over 60 cases of COVID-19.

According to the health department, officials have only been able to confirm 23 of the COVID-19 cases.

The health department told KETV NewsWatch 7 that Rosewood Academy Childcare and Preschool near 158th and Fort has been shut down for 10 days.
