MILWAUKEE —

Milwaukee parking enforcement wrote 2,200 parking citations, and the Department of Public Works towed 74 vehicles in the past 24 hours.

The snow and ice removal process is far from over.

“We’ve been active since Saturday, 24 hours a day,” said Milwaukee DPW’s Brian DeNeve. “We will continue to be working the overnight hours tonight addressing corners throughout the city of Milwaukee and clearing areas of the streets we have not been able to address. That’s going to be happening through the overnight hours into tomorrow until the work is done.”

Several cars near West Wells and North 18th streets are still snowed in as of Friday evening.

The cars are covered in snow and tickets, including notices of intent to tow.

“It is very logistically difficult if there’s a large amount of snow, that was the case with the first massive dump of snow,” DeNeve explained. “Just accessing those cars was simply not feasible.”

Tow truck drivers told WISN 12 they’ve been busy since the back-to-back snowstorms.

“A lot of people getting stuck in alleys, people getting plowed in,” says tow truck operator Daniel Johnson. “Start shoveling yourself out, it makes it a lot easier for tow truck drivers to get to you.”

DeNeve said it’s difficult for plows to properly clear the roads when cars are still parked and snowbound.

There is no snow emergency issued Friday night.

DPW crews will continue the snow and ice removal process throughout the weekend.
