The St. Charles Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide involving a 12-year-old girl accused of killing her baby brother. Sheriff Greg Champagne said the department received a medical emergency call on the Westbank in reference to a 6-month-old boy not breathing. Life saving measures were performed but were unsuccessful, according to Champagne. During an autopsy, the death of the infant was ruled a homicide, Champagne said. On Monday, Champagne said the 12-year-old sister of the deceased infant was arrested and charged with first degree murder. The 12-year-old was taken to a juvenile housing facility pending further court proceedings, according to the sheriff. “This is a horrific and tragic situation; however, due to sensitivity of both the victim and suspect being juveniles, we are unable to comment any further. We have been in constant contact with the 29thJudicial District Attorney’s Office throughout the course of this investigation,” Champagne said.
