Search warrant served on Senator Burr’s attorney over stock trades: official

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The FBI served a search warrant to Senator Richard Burr’s attorney in connection with the stock trades that Burr made in advance of a sharp market downturn triggered by the coronavirus pandemic, a senior Justice Department official confirmed on Thursday.

The official said the FBI did not conduct a raid, but paid a visit to the senator’s home to collect his cell phone, and that the warrant was obtained at the “highest levels” of the Justice Department.

Reuters could not immediately learn precisely when the search warrant was executed.
